Tim is Elmac Services' principal consultant and provides consultancy and training on all aspects of EMC, including design, testing and the application of standards, to companies manufacturing electronic products and concerned about the implications of the EMC Directive.
He has specialized in EMC for many years after an early career in electronic design. Tim gained a BSc in Electronic Engineering from Southampton University in 1976. He has worked in electronic product design in various industry sectors including process instrumentation and audio visual control. He was design group leader at Rosemount Ltd before leaving in 1990 to start Elmac Services.
Well known in the EMC world, he is the author of EMC for Product Designers and The Circuit Designers' Companion, both published by Elsevier Science under the Newnes imprint, as well as co-author with Keith Armstrong of EMC for Systems and Installations.
EMC for Product Designers has been translated into several languages and is widely used in design and test laboratories as a practical reference guide to the complexities of EMC design.
An experienced presenter, Tim has led or contributed to seminars and courses for ERA Technology, TUV Product Service, Schaffner EMC, the Institution of Electrical Engineers, Euro-EMC, NEPCON, and in-house for numerous companies and specialist events including the Zurich and EMC Europe biennial international EMC conferences.
He has been a member of the IEE's EMC committee, has edited a special issue of the IEE Proceedings on EMC and is a technical assessor of accredited EMC test laboratories for UKAS and SWEDAC. He also sits on Working Group C of the EMC Test Laboratories Association.
